Launch of SGLN’s New Initiatives

About The Event

SGLN celebrated the launch of two exciting initiatives, in conjunction with our 3rd anniversary: The Overseas Transition Support (OTS) programme to help Singaporeans thrive before, during, and after their global postings; and the SGLN Industry Interest Groups (SIIG), kicking off with Biopharmaceutical Manufacturing and Energy & Chemicals, uniting leaders to tackle industry-specific challenges head-on.

We were honoured to have Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade & Industry Gan Kim Yong officiate the launch. In conversation with SGLN’s Chief Learning Advisor Dr. Swapna Dayanandan, he spoke about why overseas exposure matters even for leaders based in Singapore, noting that local firms often operate in global markets or with international clients. He also emphasised that success abroad requires more than simply replicating strategies that work in one country and applying to another. Leaders must be flexible, adaptable, and able to approach each region afresh. Drawing on his own corporate experience before politics, he highlighted the importance of truly understanding local contexts and finding partners with aligned philosophies, lessons that continue to ring true for leaders today.

Our SIIG representatives, Siong Wan Chan (from GSK) and Ong Shwu Hoon (from ExxonMobil), added to the conversation by sharing why platforms like SIIG are essential for building the next generation of Singapore’s industry leaders.
