Overseas Transition Support

I liked the diversity of the cohort and how we were grouped. It helped those of us heading to similar destinations connect meaningfully. We even created a WhatsApp group for the USA participants so we can support one another in our upcoming relocations. The whole check-in, passport concept, perfume, and music were perfect — they really set the tone. I’m super grateful to the SGLN team and all the supporting partners. Knowing that there’s so much support for my overseas relocation puts me at ease mentally. I also believe that trailing spouses should absolutely do this session too. Successful transitions are so much about family support, and I want to make sure my husband feels set up for success too.

The BeyondSG module breaks down the steps needed to bring us closer to global workplace interactions. I appreciate how it highlights our blind spots, helping us become more aware of how we can navigate our journeys.

The BeyondSG module was incredibly comprehensive and insightful. What stood out most for me was the sharing by the industry practitioner, the real stories and practical examples. They brought authenticity, making the session engaging and deeply relatable. I left feeling inspired to create meaningful influence that aligns with my values, an impact that not only guides my own journey but also contributes positively to others.

One of my key takeaways from the BeyondSG module is the journey of transforming our leadership style from Good to Great to Global and this is only the beginning. Thanks to OTS, we are now equipped with the right tools to build on this momentum as we continue moving forward with purpose. 

Through SGLN’s well crafted programme to groom global leaders, coupled with access to distinguished industry mentors, as well as leadership networking events, I found a strong source of guidance and reference that I could draw on in my transition to working in Thailand.

The insights and shared experiences from fellow Singaporean leaders coming from various fields of life not only helped me adapt more confidently, but also reminded me that I’m part of a larger, supportive community even while overseas.

Going abroad is about being intentional.

Uncovering your inner motivation, positioning for workplace success, and developing cross-cultural sensitivities are essential prerequisites to a successful overseas stint – SGLN programmes and community provide for all that. Although my overseas transition happened many years ago before I had the privilege to be part of the SGLN community, I’m sure it has now made me much more prepared – and intentional – for my next move.

Even after nearly five years overseas, being part of the SGLN community remains incredibly valuable. The transition is ongoing, and having a circle of peers who truly get the challenges helps more than I expected. I’ve learned so much from the open sharing—whether it’s navigating leadership dilemmas or just gaining new perspectives.

It’s comforting to see that values like integrity, resilience, and clear thinking cut across industries and cultures. SGLN continues to help me grow and stay grounded through it all.

I was already overseas. So it didn’t help me with the transition, but supported me to have a stronger lifeline and connection back to Singapore, and to feel more comfortable being my full self in a global context. Often we abandon our roots when we go somewhere that is totally different, culturally, socially and professionally. Having the connection through SGLN gives a good reassurance on being my Singaporean self and fly our flag high and proud.
