Report: Leading Across Organisational Boundaries
Published 16 September 2025
In today’s interconnected world, leadership rarely stays confined within a single team or company. Leaders are increasingly expected to bridge geographies, industries, and generations—navigating complexity while uniting people behind shared goals.
This resource explores what it takes to lead across organisational boundaries by comparing the perspectives of two groups: young professionals (YPs) at the start of their careers, and senior leaders (SLs) managing cross-border teams. Drawing on survey insights, it uncovers both alignment and divergence on the skills, challenges, and success factors of global leadership.
Inside, you’ll find:
-
The motivations that drive leaders to take on global roles.
-
The practical and systemic frictions of leading across borders.
-
The most valued, yet often underdeveloped, skills such as communication, adaptability, empathy, and cultural agility.
-
Actionable recommendations for YPs, SLs, and HR on preparing the next generation of global leaders.
Global leadership is, by definition, about leading across boundaries: cultural, geographic, and organisational. This report highlights not only the skills required to succeed, but also how different generations perceive the journey, offering a roadmap for building inclusive, resilient leaders who can thrive anywhere.
