About This Resource
This resource was developed as part of the SGLN Fellowship 2024 Action Learning Project by the following pioneer SGLN Fellows: Jesse James Jalleh, Lim Kexin, Ravindran Alfreds, Sharon Tan, Rohit Dhir, Ganesan Arasapam, Shareefah Maideen, and Huang Huiping.
The team was drawn to this topic after observing how leaders often face heightened emotional and mental challenges when transitioning into overseas roles — challenges that are further amplified by today’s fast-evolving and unpredictable VUCA (Volatile, Uncertain, Complex, Ambiguous) world.
Rather than offer generic advice, the team sought to create a more personalised, insightful, and easy-to-use tool that helps leaders reflect on how their personality and leadership style influence how they respond to change. Drawing on leadership frameworks, mental health research, and practical experiences from global postings, the team designed a short, meaningful questionnaire to help leaders understand their overseas leadership mindset.
Those who take this short quiz will be matched to one of three distinct leadership personas — Ambitious, Bo Pian (Reluctant), or YOLO — each with tailored insights and curated resources. The goal is to help leaders not only identify their mindset, but also to equip them with the right tools and reflections to thrive through change.
Because going abroad isn’t just about where you land — it’s about who you become along the way.
