About The Event
We held a rich discussion on Building Sustainable Cities and Navigating Carbon Markets as part of the SGLN Fellowship Programme’s Action Learning Project series. This event brought together leaders from diverse sectors to share insights on how cities, which account for over 70% of global CO2 emissions, can play a pivotal role in the fight against climate change.
We were joined by Ellery Sutanto (Head of Exchange, Climate Impact X), Esther An (Chief Sustainability Officer, City Developments Limited), De Rui Wong (Senior Vice President, GIC), and Gillian Koh Tan (Chief Sustainability Officer, MAS). Their perspectives illuminated how carbon markets and sustainable finance are crucial in accelerating the transition to low-carbon economies. It was inspiring to hear how carbon credits, particularly transition credits, can offer industries a practical yet impactful pathway toward greener practices while contributing meaningfully to global sustainability goals.
Beyond the mechanics of carbon markets, the conversation also highlighted the role of ESG-focused investments in creating long-term value. As sustainability becomes increasingly tied to financial performance, it’s clear that businesses and investors alike are recognising the critical importance of aligning profitability with environmental and societal impact.
We extend our appreciation to the Singapore Sustainability Academy for providing a fitting venue for the discussion as a zero-energy space that serves as a living testament to the potential of innovative design in creating more sustainable urban environments.
We would like to extend our appreciation to our SGLN fellows Camy Loh, Cyl Lin, Harshil Raisinghani, Louis Kay, Sebastian Foo, Vikna Rajah who organised this event as part of their Action Learning Project, and our SGLN Ambassadors Estelle Ang and Keziah Quek for their support.

About the Singapore Leaders Network
Supported by the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB) and managed by the Human Capital Leadership Institute (HCLI), the Singapore Leaders Network (SGLN) aims to prepare Singaporeans for global leadership roles. We aspire to help advance the social capital of Singaporean corporate leaders who can support one another on their professional and personal leadership journeys - whilst cultivating a vibrant and robust community.
